We are taught to push through when we encounter challenges, keep going, do not take time to think or feel or grieve the loss of change. Yet that approach robs us of the miracle of our emotions: the fun ones, the messy ones, the downright painful ones. All of those emotions make up who we are; we cannot hope to feel only joy but never pain. When the urge comes to just push through, stop, breathe, & feel the emotion that wishes to emerge. Then push on, clear & free.
Healing is not a cure. It is a shift in perception. When you heal from past pain or trauma, you may release it & shift into a new way of experiencing its effect on you. When you have a chronic illness, you may shift into acceptance rather than fighting what you can't control. When you have stress or physical pain, you may shift into better self care & less victimization. With all shifts, you may start to see the gifts or lessons in your experiences, rather than the burdens. This is true healing & it's available to all.
There are so many things in life over which we have no control, yet we still throw our valuable time, energy, & personal resources into the issue. Today, make a list of everything in your life that stresses or worries you. Honestly assess how much control you have over each concern. Then let go--truly release--each one that you can't control. Feel the lightness that remains.
When in doubt, when in stress, when in pain, when the tears begin to flow. ...just breathe. Take in as many deep, nourishing breaths as you need to get you back to center for the moment. And if it starts to rise again, remember to always to come back to the breath.
The first day of autumn seems to be a perfect time to consider the seasons & how they correspond with the cycles of your life. Many people feel sadness in autumn, as the leaves turn & fall, leaving the trees bare & ushering in the cold & grey of winter. But just as each weather season is necessary to carry on the life of the earth, the seasons in your life are important too. Embrace the seasons, even with the challenges they bring, as change makes way for all things new.
May the blessings of God rest upon you,
May God's peace abide with you,
May the presence of God illuminate your hearts,
Now and forevermore.
Maybe you woke up to sunshine & blues skies today; maybe you woke up to rain. But close your eyes, go inside, & you can be anywhere you want. Take time for a mini-vacation as many times as you need to get through your day. Visualization is a great tool for getting you through challenging times.
Some days the best thing you can do is breathe. Connect with your breath, feel it sustaining you, and know that this too shall pass.
Creativity begats creativity. You don't have to go out & paint a picture or write a novel. Creativity is inherent in everyone & can be found in the little things: coloring with your kids, creatively solving a problem at work, designing a garden, scrapbooking, & more. Find what creative activities feed your soul, engage in them often, & you'll find creativity growing in other areas of your life.
