You have 2 choices. You can "should on yourself", proclaiming how those around you (including yourself) should or should not have done this or that, and how you would be so much happier if things had happened the way they "should have". Or, you can choose to go out and make life what you want it to be.
Approach each day with a yoga mindset. Sometimes you can hold every pose, sometimes you wobble and fall. Appreciate who you are in this day, without anticipating who you might be tomorrow
At the need of a yoga session, we practice "savasana", a state of complete relaxation & integration of all that we just accomplished. This is not a state with which we gift ourselves often, and yet rest is a vital part of healing. Where can you fit in brief savasana's each day? You don't have to lie flat on your back; simply find a quiet place & spend 5 minutes breathing in relaxation & peace, integrating all you've accomplished so far that day. Do this several times throughout the day & notice how your overall outlook improves.
Deprivation is not a healthy or sustainable way to initiate change, though many of us try to "cold turkey" our way through. However, feelings of hunger or loneliness do not necessarily signify deprivation. Sometimes what's really missing is so much deeper.
It's poetry Wednesday! Today, a poem for you by Rumi:
The Guest House
This being human is a guest-house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you
out for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
Healing hearts need extra love...and who doesn't have something that needs healing? What does your healing heart need today? Look around & give that to someone else who needs it just as much as you.
Joy is luminous. Find your joy, find your bliss, and live it every day. Let your joyful light shine.
Oops...I forgot to post a poem yesterday! So this week, we'll have "Poetry Thursday"!
Into the Open
Birds sound in the birch tree outside my window,
squawks and caws of blue jays and ravens,
the familiar “birdie birdie” of the cardinal,
a “tut tut” from a robin, and the occasional
“hoo hoo” of the turtle dove
They go about their days
never making note of my coming
and going, buildiing their nests,
laying their eggs, hatching helpless
babies with no announcement
of their arrival
Children find a baby bird on the
sidewalk, hairless, eyes still closed,
too soon outside the protection of
its egg. They try in vain to save it,
pour water over its tiny body,
baking in the afternoon sun, feed
worms into its gaping mouth, gasping
for its final breath. They place its body
into last year’s fallen nest and forget
about it, on to enjoy their next adventure
The turtle dove sits on my windowsill
for at least an hour, peering nervously yet
never offering to depart, dark eyes piercing,
she stares, unblinking, and I stare at her,
and together we ponder what to do,
remain here on this ledge contemplating
each other and the world beyond,
or take flight, entrust the wind to carry us
on its back, permit the ground
to soften falls along the way, when,
startled, I break our gaze to look
behind me, and turning back
to my companion outside the screen,
I find that she is gone
Every cross or unkind word that is said to you has the opportunity to be either a reciprocation or a humbling experience. When you choose humility, you can be open to explore the root of your feelings. Are you hurt because someone you love was disrespectful? Or did they hit an old wound? Either way, it can be a valuable learning experience.
Take time today to prepare yourself to be a sanctuary. Prepare your mind to be open, prepare your body with nourishing foods, prepare your heart by giving & receiving love. Prepare a space in your home where you can find peace & regeneration, your own personal sanctuary. Treat yourself like a sanctuary & you will feel divine.
